Summer Is Winding Down

Pere Marquette River fishing reports for Trout, Salmon, and Steelhead by Clint Anderson.

Hi All

With Summer winding down our plans for the Fall have everyone excited. Our Steelhead run got highjacked so everyone is ready to get a line wet this Fall and make up for lost time on the water. I have been out several times this Summer for Smallmouth, Pike and Trout. It has been fun and there is still opportunity for them species but our focus will soon be on The Salmon Run. I have not seen a good opportunity for lure fishing for Kings yet. Conditions have to be right!! Cool nights, and rain, neither have been good although we had 2-3 cool nights last week around Aug. 18,19,20 that almost got me excited to go look around with lure rod in hand but no rain…Lower river at Scottville is in the 500’s, that’s Summer lows still.. Pere Marquette Lake has had a bunch of Salmon in the harbor and a few are trickling up river and some are staying in the harbor some are retreating back out to the lake to feed. So the early run can start up as early as August 15th and be good but not the way the weather has been going this season hot and muggy with smallย  1/2″ rain showers and T- storms. Lake Michigan is still fishing good for Kings, Coho, Lakers, and Steelhead and I have been out with friends a few times this summer fishing.

Other than fishing some I have been planning for the upcoming Archery Deer season. I got a new bow for myself for Christmas and I picked it up in January. I got some new 3D Deer targets and have been shooting in the back yard practicing a bunch. It’s a Mathews VXR 31″ 60 lb. I got it at Captain Chucks II in Ludington and had Randy set it up. It’s shooting really good and have been putting 2 arrows into a golf ball at 10,20,30 yard shots. My cousin Matt helped me out and put in some Milo food plots where I hunt so I’m looking really forward to Late October for my vacation to MO. to see family and Deer hunt.

The last 2 weeks I have been doing some fly tieing in preparation for the up coming season. Iย have a few open guide days left for peak Salmon season due to cancellations I have September 24,27..October 2…. Late Salmon/ Steelhead October 13-25th..

Tight Lines

Clint
