Count Down To Christmas

Pere Marquette River fishing reports for Trout, Salmon, and Steelhead by Clint Anderson.

Hi All

Fall/ Winter Steelhead season is here. We also would like to remind you we have Gift Certificates you can purchase and we will mail to you in time for Christmas. Lodging for the Red Moose Lodge or guide trips for Cast Away Guide Service.

I had a great Fall season and even thought the Salmon run was later than normal it went down with some pretty good fishing for the last 3 or 4 weeks before I went on my hunting trips in late October. I got back from hunting a few days before Thanksgiving and had time to unpack, do Thanksgiving dinner and had guide trips booked for last Friday/ Saturday. Quite a few people still out fishing and the weather is still tolerable for most people. I would show you a few pictures of our results from Fri/Sat but they are on a customers phone per usual, unsent. Ohh well we caught fish both days and lost some too all on eggs flies and nymphs. We enjoyed the days on the water and the weather. The river is dropping back down to normal after the 3″ of wet snow that was melted by a inch of rain hours later on Wednesday. That put a whammy to any warmer river temps for a few days, the fish adjusted to the new normal colder temps. By the way the fish fought and how cold my hands were wetting the fish glove I would say it was around 38-40 deg. Also it was clue the water had lots of O2 when the fish would leave splashing Gregg in the face. They all released very well. Good to be back home and on the river !

I had a great time hunting, seeing family and friends. I had done lots of shooting in the summer with the new Mathews VXR 31.5″ and was very proficient with my bow out to 30 yards. Then I sighted in my 300 win mag and all 6 shots were kill shots 2 at 100yds, 2 at 200yds, and 2 at 300yds. So it was a pretty easy archery shot at the Doe at 9 yds. and the 8 pt. Buck at 7 yds. in Missouri. Then I did a firearm Deer hunt in Nebraska in the Pine Ridge Unit NW corner. My tag included Mule Deer buck or Whitetail Deer buck or doe. I had 4 animals I could have shot under 100 yds. and in my scopes crosshairs. I seen 2 different 2×2 Mule Deer and a small Whitetail buck 8pt and a Whitetail doe, none tempted me to shoot. So I ate the Nebraska tag looking for a trophy buck and filled both my Missouri archery tags for meat in the freezer. Hospitality was great in Nebraska with Ken and his brother Rick. I also enjoyed my visit in Missouri with my grandma who turns 99 in a couple days on December 3 rd.. I have had the pleasure of staying with Grandma for the last 12 years of bowhunting season for at least a week and sometimes up to 18 days. I do have some hunting pictures I can share with you. Also a friend Dan got a nice buck in Mo with a gun, he sent me a picture so here it is. He hunts on my uncle Mike’s land he leases. Keith another friend of mine got a 8 pt. firearm buck in Mo off the farm I hunt on.

I have lots of days open to fish if anyone wants to Fly fish or Hardware fish for Steelhead or Trout. Just give me a call the weather looks pretty good for the next 10 days or so.

Tight Lines

Clint
