Not much going on but a bunch of snow on the ground, lots of good ice around to fish on. Last month I got out bird hunting with my friends Jeff, John, Trish, Sean, Walt at Pine Hill Kennel and Sportsman Club near Belding, Mi . That was fun to get out on a hunt and watch the dogs point and find birds. A week after that Sean and I went over to Saginaw bay sight fishing for Yellow Perch. We had a slow start, then we found a bunch and both got our limits in short order. That was the best Perch fishing day we had ever had and we both Perch fish a bunch. Early ice in early January I went and checked out a local lake to see if it had enough ice. It was still thin in spots 2″-4″ but good enough to fish as long as you were careful. Caught a nice bunch of Blue Gills with Jeff the first day in a couple hours then I went back the next day and got close to a limit in 5 hours. I have been out on a few other local lakes and found a bunch of dinks and had a few slow days as well. Just last week we got out on a Lake Michigan harbor for Yellow perch and we have caught a bunch of Perch but the size has been on the smaller size 6″ to 9″ nothing big yet..
The snowmobiling has been off to a really bad start. Our big group canceled 2 trips to the UP in January due to a lack of snow. Last weekend on February 5,6 the whole state of Michigan got dumped on. The UP has areas around the Keweenaw reporting 54″ last week of new snow accumulation. I put about 25 mile on my snowmobile around local this week. The trails are great ! We had 6″ of nice firm base and got over 12″-18″ of fluffy snow locally depending on the area your riding..Plenty of snow..But it won’t last long so get out and use those sleds !!
Spring will be here before you know it so it’s getting about time to plan a Spring fishing trip. Peak Steelhead run is March and April then it move’s onto our local Trout season and we target Brown’s and Rainbows..
That’s all I have for now sounds like I will be plowing thru the weekend again tomorrow. Snow is forecasted.
