Ice Fishing and Thinking Spring

Pere Marquette River fishing reports for Trout, Salmon, and Steelhead by Clint Anderson.

Hi All

I have been busy. Sold my old 1 man ice shanty Clam Kenai for a bigger Clam Legend XL insulated. It was a very nice upgrade. I have been out 5 or 6 times in the last 2 weeks. I got to fish with some Guide friends Sean McDonald and Russ Madden on a lake for Perch and Crappy. Good times had by all and it was full arctic that day 0-5 deg. windchills. Catches aren’t great everywhere I went but still fun to get out and plenty of fish for several meals. Spent a little time clearing off the steps at Green Cottage. If anyone wants to do the other side jump in I left it for ya. I can’t stand seeing people trying to navigate that slippery slope, it’s a accident waiting to happen. Your Welcome and the last couple years it was twice as bad I needed a new ice spud to even make a dent in it those years.. The river is low and clear so being stealthy and making good first drifts counts. Usual flies are working Stones, Hex, Parr, Caddis, Eggs in all shapes and sized and colors. Finding fish is the easy part getting them to bite is the trick.

We still have lots of open rooms at the Red Moose Lodge and trip dates for this Spring Steelhead run and don’t forget about Trout at the late end of the run thur May. Good times and warmer weather will be here in a month or less.

Thanks for reading.
